We're excited to hear that Ponoko, the popular, laser-cutter based, online fabrication system, is teaming up with SparkFun to offer electronic hardware as part of its catalog of materials, allowing makers to create polished, custom electronic products. Touch-sensitive, gps-enabled, music-producing robots that feed your cat come to mind. According to SparkFun Chief Operating Officer Trevor Zylstra, this team-up "represents another step in [their] goal of 'enabling electronic enthusiasts." By coming together, the two companies have built a bridge between online supply and fabrication, and we hope to see more suppliers/vendors follow suit.
Check out the new system here, make something electronic, and let us know how it goes in the comments.
