Easter weekend will always be second to Halloween in terms of binging on sugary snacks (at least here in the States), but German designer Pieter Brenner has upped the ante this year with the "Sugarchair," which is exactly what it sounds like. Last week, we gave you a glimpse of Bompas & Parr's jelly architecture; today, designer Pieter Brenner's claims he has created "the first product of this size completely made out of sugar."
The man behind the chair...Where Emoc Armengol's "Panpaati" might seemed somewhat half-baked—i.e. it can be called a chair only in terms of form, not function—Brenner's choice of materials includes a further level of built-in customizability:The sugarchair can be shaped by its owner into a personalized and unique form. Through the shaping and the treatment of its owner, the sugarchair will turn into a very unique object. "The user can play an active part in the design with form and the dimensions of the object himself," states Brenner. "The more consumed, the less mass left of the chair."
"Sugarchair" is currently on display at the Cologne International School of Design's KISDshop. Only time will tell if Brenner's vision that "sugar will become the basic material for eco-fuel, plastics and cosmetics" will become a reality.
