Dads + Daughters + Dysons = The Ponytail Vac Hack

My new printer arrived, it's wireless. While setting it up I had to put my glasses on. It took me so long to do that I instinctively turned my head and yelled for my wife to fetch my son to show me how to do it, but then I rememebered that I am unmarried and childless.

Because I don't have kids, my friends who've successfully bred don't forward me child-based YouTube videos, leaving me in the dark as to current child-rearing trends. So I was surprised to see this video of a father giving his daughter a ponytail using a vacuum cleaner:

My first thought was, Well, this is why the terrorists hate us Americans. But it seems this trend has crossed the pond, as there are videos of Brits doing it:

So where did this come from? It seems the trend went viral among a subset of parents last year, after The Today Show showed this clip:

I can't tell what language they're speaking, but it definitely doesn't sound like English, so it appears the Americans are not to blame for this one--unless the man is an immigrant.

However, going back even further in time, the earliest instance we can find of a guy using a vacuum in this manner is this video from 2010. We're not embedding it here because it's a bit of a fail—the man loses the rubber band to the nozzle's suction—but we do want to point out, the man is Canadian. So you can lay the blame on the doorstep of our neighbor to the north.

A couple of other ponytail-vacuum honorable mentions: This guy's racked up 3-million-plus hits for his edited spoof version, and for the serial killers among you, someone else has done a NSFW version here featuring a Barbie Doll and a malevolent Ken.

Ah, the Flowbee is back.

I dont know about you but I wouldnt want my hair in a filthy vacuum.
A pony tail is dead easy anyway.

I remember seeing "cut your own hair" machines in the back of magazines in the early '90s that were essentially a vacuum with a rotating blade in the nozzle. I'm surprised it took someone this long to think of the pony tail trick....
