Earlier this month Mitsubishi Electric unveiled their new "3D touch panel" technology. Current touchscreens can read your finger's position anywhere along the X- or Y-axis; Mitsubishi's innovation is to read the finger's position on the Z-axis, adding another level of measurable interaction. The design, Mitsubishi hopes, will increase the functionality of a small screen--enabling no-touch mouseovers and submenu pop-ups, for example.
