100% Design in Tokyo has opened this week as part of the Tokyo Design Festival. Although there are quite a few designers presenting their latest work that did so already last month during the London Design Festival, there is still a whole lot of interesting new stuff to be spotted - here the first impressions! Over the next few days we will report daily from here and will naturally provide a gallery of the whole festival once it's over for all those who couldn't make it to planet Tokyo.
Above is Tomsuma Alt's ingenious Earth Hat, symbolizing that we all have already a whole world within ourselves while struggling and seeking in our daily life's on planet earth, Lightly's Bubble Wrap Lamp Shade made from glass, Wncart's Light of Animal in the shape of a sausage dog (to be switched on and off by stroking it under its chin), Something Fishy (Fishbone Model Making Kit) by Islandic designers Roshildur and Senz's latest umbrella.
The big heart is a re-designed New York Subway Map by Zero per Zero (also the Koreans love NYC - the team has actually very successfully re-designed also the subway maps of Tokyo, Osaka and Seoul), Kyeok Kim's beautiful Second Skin jewellery made from soap, questioning body decoration and suggesting that the immaterial sent hat will remain on your skin after the soap has dissolved is also a kind of jewel and Jaehyung Hong's Candy Pills.
