Portland, Oregon-based Snow Peak offers a wide variety of thoughtfully-designed outdoor gear: most of their products can be packed up at a moment's notice, yet their minimalist aesthetic belies the rugged mountaineering heritage behind the lighting, cookware, etc. The Japanese brand's latest offering is multipurpose LED lamp that is equally at home in the wild and, well, at home. The "Tulip Lantern" has three settings, the highest of which is rated at 250 lumens, while the low setting offers up to 100 hours of battery life.
However, the real innovation lies in its gravity-activated shade: when the lantern rests on a surface, with the light pointing upward, the lamp produces a wide beam of ambient light; when it is suspended, the shade shifts downward to produce a more focused spotlight.
Lastly, the Tulip Lantern can be powered via a standard mini USB cord (though this will not charge the batteries).
