"Nine," a desk lamp by Aldentro—a.k.a. Pieter Desmijter—might be seen as the young Belgian designer's answer to Giorgio Bonaguro's "Tweety" lamp, taking a cue (or is that right angle?) from the glory days of Bauhaus, translating the quintessential modern style into a boxy piece of lighting.
The form is minimal to the point of seeming Spartan, folding over itself as though it is hiding the lightbulb, which shines out of its sides nonetheless. Yet "Nine" is far from cold, and its punctuation-like shape adds an aspect of whimsy to the simple lamp. This metal table light gives a soft diffuse light. The idea was to create a table light emphasizing the things that are normally hidden. By using a contrasting socket and textile wire an attractive light was created.
It's a simple but tactile light which creates a nice warm atmosphere.
