Miami-based furniture and design showroom, Luminaire, is celebrating their 37th anniversary with a special lecture from renowned designer/architect Patricia Urquiola. The Spanish designer is one of the most recognized visionaires in contemporary design and has played a critical part in Luminaire's "Love" fundraising series for cancer research. The lecture, co-sponsored by B&B Italia, will also be an occasion to introduce Urquiola's Bend sofa for B&B, a new work that has received critical acclaim for its technical features.Designer Patricia Urquiola's describes her original concept for the seating system as "a primary, monolithic shape which gives the impression of having been sculpted by hand". The Bend-Sofa, designed to appeal to both the commercial and contract markets, issues from a study of 3D models and digital research and effectively expresses the idea of motion through a modular composition which allows it to be customised to suit a variety of spaces. Contrasting stitching adds to the expression of movement intrinsic to the design.
