It's preview week at the first North American International Auto Show since the Carpocalypse and federal bailouts bridge loans for two of the big three.
The tone down at Cobo Hall has been less extravagant than previous years, but it's certainly not the funeral some were expecting. GM and Chrysler have bare-bones exhibit spaces consisting primarily of carpet, but both rolled out sexy extended range EV concepts to cheers. Ford held the line with understated confidence and a strong portfolio of new products, while the Germans showed up with brand new displays and more efficient vehicles which refuse to compromise on style and power.
