With few exceptions the products on exhibition at Designjunction have already made the rounds in New York and Milan. Some, like the Designers in Residence ICFF award-winning exhibition, "Tools for Everyday Life," are worth a quick revisit. A group of designers working and studying in the open-ended residency at Northumbia University created a range of products in response to a brief to explore traditional craft manufacturing of helpful objects for, as the exhibition title notes, everyday living. [Editor's Note: They presented several of these projects as well as several new ones at this year's ICFF.]

Others, like Thonet, who has been winning awards for their chairs since the 1851 London World Fair, drew crowds with a live wood-bending demonstration. Volunteers were allowed to keep the chair back they helped to bend, and we saw a few lucky visitors heading home with the curved U-shaped pieces tucked under their arms.

Darkroom, a beautifully curated shop in London specializing in unique and wholly unusual home objects and personal accessories, is celebrating their third year in business but their very first as a London Design Festival exhibitor. Pictured here is the Wives Bag Collection by Buki Akib.

Christie's hosted The Joy of Living, an auction of bespoke pieces in aid of Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres. A few of the items for sale are pictured below.

But the show stealer this year was Dejana Kabiljo's "OCCUPY!" armchairs made from former Yugoslavian army beds Kabiljo sourced from flea markets. Though the chairs, shown here in steel and gold plated steel, are surprisingly springy, comfortable and perfectly suitable for use, they're being sold as art objects.
